Aboriginal Art | Australia

For art we were making a story that connects to us using aboriginal symbols. Aboriginal art comes from Australia. Aboriginal art tells a story of aborigines beliefs. People call this "Dreamtime stories".

First we practiced the different symbols on a piece of paper. The different symbols are: footprints, stars, waterholes, traveling sign, people sitting and the campsite. After practicing the symbols we created our story.

My art told a story how the koala settled into wildlife. I put the traveling sign underneath the koala for the representation of traveling. The different symbols I used were, stars, waterholes, footprints and traveling sign.

I learned new things about the Aboriginal culture and art. I enjoyed telling my story using paint.

LI: To create art that tells a story using traditional methods.

Place Value Counting

Ancient Egyptian numbers are drawn with different symbols.

The short rope represents tens, the coils represents hundreds, the rods represents ones,  the flower represents the thousand and the frog represents the hundred thousands.

The number 576 is written as five coil ropes, seven long ropes and 6 short ropes.

Properties Of Sound | Light & Sound

Sound is volume that something or someone can hear. Property means belonging.

One property of sound is how sound can travel in different directions. Mr Wong proved this by using a meter ruler and making a sound to see what decibels it was. No matter where the clap came from the decibels were around the same number.

The second property is how sound can travel around corners. The experiment was proven by Mr Wong calping around the corner from the recording device. When Mr Wong clapped the microphone picked up the clap.

The last property is how sound gets weaker and weaker. This was proven by dropping a ball closer to the laptop to see if the sound traveled to the other side, Mr Oglives meter was 59 decibels and Mr Wong's meter was 81 decibels. This proves that the closer the sound to the meter the loud it was, therefore sound loses volume as it travels.

L.I - to observe the properties of sound.

Functions Of Adjectives

All things can use describing words. Describing words are called adjectives. There are three types of adjectives, they are absolute, comparative, and superlative.

Superlative adjectives say that something that is in a high degree or quality, for example meanest boy.

Comparative adjectives are used to compare things to things, for example meaner boy.

Absolute adjectives describe something by itself, for example mean boy.

When people write an adjective it has to start with a lowercase letter because they are not unique.

Using adjectives helps people describe things clearly.

Basic Fact Boxes

L.I - to remember basic maths facts

Today I completed my basic fact boxes challenge. I did up to ten in addition, it took me three minutes and 27 mins. Next week I am going up to twenty and I am going to subtraction and addition. My goal is to get faster on my addition.

Scanning | Keywords

Scanning is a reading strategy that I use to scan for specific information.

I researched about Rachael Hall, my required question was what inspired the new instrument?. The keywords I used was inspired and instrument. I read to contents pages, the article had no contents so I looked at the headings then I scanned for the keywords to find the information about the new instrument (Patō).

Scanning helped me find information faster.
